Statement of the Council of the Learned Society of Slovakia

The Council of the Learned Society of Slovakia has been watching with concern the recent escalation of tensions in society. Therefore, it fully identifies with the statement published these days by representatives of leading scientific and educational institutions. We have noted with particular concern the actions of the leadership of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic towards the top national cultural institutions – the Slovak National Gallery and the Slovak National Theater. As representatives of the scientific community, we are well aware of the importance of supporting free creation for the creation of lasting values. We consider attempts at directive management and censorship of artistic activities to be an unacceptable gambling with creative potential, which threatens the future of the entire society.
